* Countries with which Ukraine has signed legal aid agreements that cancel the requirement for legalization of official documents.
** Ukraine objected to Kosovo’s accession to the Hague Convention of 1961, in connection with which the Convention does not apply in the relations between Ukraine and Kosovo, the Apostille on documents for use in the territory of Kosovo is not put.
*** If you prepare documents for a country that has not joined the Hague Convention and it is not on the list of above countries, you need a consular legalization procedure.
Legalization of documents
Consular legalization is a procedure for the recognition of official documents issued on the territory of Ukraine, abroad, which is held in the ministries of Ukraine and consulates of foreign states on the territory of Ukraine.
The procedure for legalization
For consular legalization it is necessary to pass four stages:
1.Acknowledge copies of the notary. This stage is relevant for those documents that are subject to such legalization.
2.Legalize them at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. This is necessary only if there is a notarized copy.
3.Legalize the documents in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
4.Legalize the papers at the appropriate consulate on the territory of Ukraine.
It should be remembered that the legalization procedure varies from country to country. Yes, some consulates allow the opportunity to submit documents at once, along with a certified translation. Others demand, first, to legalize the document itself, but only then to legalize its translation.
